Although I am very busy for several months, because I am working on my master’s thesis project beside my job, I have found some time to finish beta 3 of my custom Android-x86 build. Feel free to donate me a beer if you like or enjoy my work!
If you are new to Android(-x86) on your laptop I suggest you reading over my old postings and the user comments from ICS and honeycomb releases. You will get a better feeling about which things are working (also how they are working) and which not and could get some other clues like how to prepare a bootable usb device, how the prepare for multi-boot and so on.
http://www.ceh-photo.de/blog/?tag=androidx86
Moreover I have created a FAQ Page about common problems and question, so please read them before you ask questions: http://www.ceh-photo.de/blog/?page_id=517

My complete code is available on GitHub but already not updated to the newest release, will be updated until I find some time to do that.

works perfect on D250.
How to connect ZT626 modem. it shows in dmesg as ttyUSB0 , 1, 2 and ttyUSB3.
how to connect. should i use pppd call gprs?
Hi CSK,
I am pleased to hear that it is working good on D250!! I will add it to the supported device list!
Is a ZT626 a Huawei modem? Because I do not own a usb modem you should try to ask in official Android-x86 newsgroup what is necessary to do? Maybe you only need to add a valid apn config in settings…?
Hi Christopher,
Thanks a lot for the project. It should really help acer users.
Acer has its own x86 Android versions in some Aspire one series like D250, Happy etc. Some of the images of the Acer Android OS might contain useful files to integrate its hardware into your own project.
http://tinyurl.com/btsptkw
Hi CSK,
thanks for the link, but the problem is, that this version is gingerbread based and I am some steps in the furture on ICS seen from gingerbread, so the binaries are not useful for me, the src could be helpful of course.
why beta3 can not be installed in ntfs partition with r/w system??
ntfs/fat do not support the necessary rights features which are required by every linux OS.
official android x86 support r/w system on ntfs/fat partition, can you add the feature on your custom build
in fact i have add the arm lib (coming from san diego dump 4.04 )to beta3 ,and it works quite well, many arm apks can run.
i think arm libs(san diego dump4.04) work better than that of san diego2.3.7 currently most android isos that can run arm apks use the latter arm lib
Ok, thank you, Can you give me a link, where I can find the libs?
I will integrate into the next release.
Regards!
Hi Christopher! Very sorry for my English =) Excellent robot! Everything is working fine. Thank you so much, that in such difficult situations do not forget about us! The only thing I noticed – with the accelerometer do something funny going on. In tablet mode, it runs somewhere about 5 seconds, then do not turn Screen as if I had not twisted. In notebook mode accelerometer does not work.
I want to try to upgrade the BIOS. But I have a couple of questions:
1) Will this system work? something go astray? will this affect a window?
2) This does not affect the reserved space on hard disk under Windows license?
Hi Igor,
which device do you own/use?
The bios update does not change anything for your windows installation. The bios is a special flash device on your motherboard. Moreover a bios upgrade could also improve some hardware issues you may experiencing in windows.
Best regards
Christopher
You can tell me a link to the latest BIOS for 1825ptz?
I don’t know why but the newest bios for ther Acer1825PT(Z) is not listed in the English version of the Acer website, but in the German version. May that is the reason you have not found it! If this question comes to your mind, the bios is always English…

Thx for all the great work. Runs great now, not only as install on sd card (my first tests), but also as multi boot on hd(0,6). This was not possible before, as I run win7, win8 and easybcd bootmanager. the grub in easybcd does not recognice pcie_aspm=force , so I left it out. Screenrotation, resume, wlan,… all work now.
I can only not find some apps on the market, like skype, mantano ebook reader. And in the kindle app, the screen recognition is wrong. I do of course not expect a test of all apps, it is just to let you know and the question, if it is not possible to simulate a more popular android phone for the market that allow the installation of more apps. or by changing setting as dpi=160
if interesting, I can post my grub setting for the sd and easybcd
Thx
still have the problem, that my router crashes when I use wlan, works fine when using lan. I use wpa2 and router is speedport w 722v. after crash, the router restarts aut. but crashes again when i restart the wlan with the android. I have others and multiple htc androids on the router without problemes.
Sorry but I have no idea what is the problem because I never had such problems. So you have two choices:
Buy another router or donate me your route so I could see what is the problem. But with second possibillity the problem is that I really have a lack of time for doing this.
Did you try some official Android-x86 builds? Do you have the same problems with them?
hallo
Updated the bios! Surprisingly, akseleromert now work “as needed”. Now I writing this comment on android, and in tablet mode (portrait) =)) Thank you so much for the you work!
Year cool! That is what I am writting for several releases 😉
Hello,
This is great work, thank you.
I’ve just some troubles with the screen resolution of my Aspire One AO751H!
Circles are not really circles :)!
And I’ve also (but i’m sure it is linked with the screen problem) troubles with videos: uTube application is not starting (or animated wallpapers also are not running).
Again: thank you,
Regards,
Tomolimo
Hi,
can you give me detailed device specs?
Best regards
Christopher
Hi,
Sorry for being late, here are the details:
Video: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500
Monitor: 1366×768 True Color 60Hz
CPU: Intel Atom CPU Z520
Thank you,
regards,
Tomolimo
I made a little video review of this android. Be warned – it is in Russian =)

Year awesome! I have watched and commented it! Thank you for sharing!
Hi, your work is incredible!.. it works perfect in my acer aspire 5735Z but in my acer aspire one ZG5 only displays SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD XXXXX Peter Anvin… I also have another acer aspire 5738PG which is a touchscreen with ATI Radeon and this won’t work not unless if I put int he parameter HWACCEL=0 nomodeset which the screen makes it bigger.
Hi, I made it work with asus aspire one but I found 1 problem at the moment, after it is in sleep mode, the system could not go back, the power lid is orange and when press ON still won’t boot or back to its original state. I need to press the power button longer until hard boot. Also one more thing, is there a way that I can save files to my USB storage? it seems that when I plug in a usb drive (fat32) it is readonly mode and not writable. Any way I can make it writable? Thanks in advance.
On Which of your two devices you recognize this issue?
Hi, I encountered this in aspire one and acer aspire 5735Z. I turn off the sleep mode since that option doesn’t work on my laptop. Does your image work with a touch screen with ATI video cards on it? I have acer aspire 5738PG which has ATI video and a touch screen but it hangs. BTw, Nice work!..
Did you try to wake up with the power key? It it really hard to develop for a device which is completly different from mine. As far as I know some amd/ati drivers should be already integrated.
Hi,
is it possible to get this patch in the next realease?
http://www.buildroid.org/blog/?p=198
this would give us access to arm binarys.
And thanks for this wonderfull port it is the best OS for this device so far.
Regards Carsten
Hi Carsten,
thank you for refering to this hack, but I was already in touch with it. It is already integrated into my current development version and will be included in the next release. It is working quite well.
I want to check some current improvements of this hack mentioned in Android-x86 discussion group and release soon. You could really look forward to this release!
I cannot wait for next release…
please next release , include Root USER 😀 .
I do not understand? Its already included?
Really love to see AMD build, since my hardware is AO722, here the specs:
Processor : AMD C60
Chipset : AMD A50M
VGA : Radeon HD 6290
LAN : Atheros
http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/LU.SG302.068
Noce work. AAnyway to get this working with touchscreen to? 😀 (for example, on the iconia tab w500, touch doesnt work)
Hi there. Great little build, been searching for something a bit more updated recently, other sites seem to be still around the 4.0.1 mark.. I like the updated splash screen too haha, nice touch.
Just to update your working order info, I’m running this on an Asus Eeepc 1025CE, works fine, haven’t found any hiccups yet on a basic few tests, It doesn’t recognize the netbook on boot though as an Asus Eeepc or whatever though, says unrecognized laptop or some such error. Doesn’t seem to be too keen on the Sleep/Restore function either but I know that’s a classic, just thought i’d mention it anyway.
A question if I may, is there anyway to make a USB boot writable, so I don’t have to go through the setup rigmarole every time I boot off a USB?
Much appreciated for your time and help, you may just get a beer or two if I can get my lil project up and running! Haha..
Thanks,
Paul
you have two downloads:
1. http://www.ceh-photo.de/blog/?file_id=12
and

which is the correct one?
thanks in advance
Both links are linked to the same file(some problems with a wordpress plugin), so its your choice.
The release 4.04 beta 3 not work on my Acer 1825 ptz , return to 2a ….
it works for me pretty well! I used live boot from usb thumb drive and didn’t have critical problems. Screen rotation didn’t work and I didn’t use wifi, because I haven’t found my password 😉 But network has been detected!
Great work – thank you so much for your effort! I’m really looking forward to the next beta. I hope that screen rotation will work as well.
Perhaps there are some issues with the screen sizes, but I’m not sure at the moment. (App-Icons couldn’t be set on the whole screen and for example the live wallpaper overview has been cut off on the left somehow).
did you check my FAQ?? You need to upgrade your BIOS!!!
Please go into detail, what is not working?
does not work in live mode and generates an error fle not found. In install mode when it comes to around 75% gives an error of memory space. Sorry for my English.
If beta2 is working this version will work either. Please try a freshly formated(FAT32) usb stick or another usb stick
Sorry
I solved was a problem of burned cd
Thanks
Won’t work, after some texts like detected acer d255 and $android , i got black screen nothing more.
Tested on beta3 and beta4, dont know why its dont work 🙁
btw. android-x86-4.0-asus_laptop-v7a-20120704.iso ICS-x86 Ethernet & ARM-v7a ENABLED on that only wifi dont work, other things works perfect. :<
Hi,
do you plan to release an new version, which is able to run arm apps? The changes should be in the official Android x86 repo.
I’m talking about thies changes:
http://www.buildroid.org/blog/?p=175
http://www.buildroid.org/blog/?p=198
yes I do. I have already build a version based on the initial patch, its working stable for me. Moreover I tried to get sync with official repo but I run into big trouble with that and I have not time to solve that issue in the moment.
I think I will release mentioned working dev release soon, because I don’t know when I will find time to fix the merge/sync errors.
Good to read that it works. I’m excitedly awaiting your next release 🙂
tried the Beta 3 on my Acer Aspire ZG5, it looks like the Android is working well, the hardware is a bit underpowered though! The only thing is Google Docs when opening a Word document, it crashes…I’d like to submit feedback if there’s a bug tracker 🙂
Great work!!!
I have installed beta 3 on Acer Aspire one D250. Just want to know if I can set it to hi resolution.
Search in android-x86 newsgroup for resolution and dpi. You can set some commands as boot parameters
Here I stumbled over the resolution command:
You can give a boot param in grub:
UVESA_MODE=1080×720
Hi Chris,
This is your best work yet! I only managed to get around to installing last weekend but this appears to be a much more stable build. I have had minimal issues. Even more interesting is the fact that my WiFi issues appear to have finally be resolved, I have not seen any connection problems since using this version!
Does this version contain the ARM translator that I’ve been reading about on the Android X86 site? This is very exciting stuff to think that we could get software written for ARM working on our X86’s! Thank you Intel for the Orange San Diego!
All the best,
Reece
Hi Reece,
I am glad to hear something from you. Strange thing with your wifi problems, I have not changed anything regarding this, but maybe it comes from a fix from upstream repo. But I am happy that it is well working for you.
Current version does not include the arm emulator but I have a working development version of it. It seems stable but has not the latest improvements from offical repo (its based on the origin patch) The problem is, that I am totally busy in the moment and so are not able to continue the work on this next build for a while (may until end of september or something like this). I will release this current state until I will find some time to write a new post for it.
P.S. I got in touch with your blog and have put it into my rss reader! 😉
Excellent news! I can wait patiently for an update, continued support for Android on these Acer’s is excellent news for owners regardless of waiting time! If it will take until September, so be it!
Thanks for checking out my blog, I need to update it actually! A lot of my friends are not into technology as much as me so it made sense to blog everything I was thinking about and doing as I couldn’t speak to many others who were interested!!
Are your studies over now for the year? Perhaps you may wish to reply to my personal e-mail! All the best, can’t wait for ARM emulator support!!
Hey in my acer aspire d250-1821 it runs and everthing but no wifi, ethernet yes but no wifi. any help?
should also mention it hangs at turning on wifi
the LED for the wifi is on
netcfg detects it because i saw the mac address.
but i just cant seem to see what the prob is.
and yea i do have the dreadful broadcom wifi chipset
oh and ANOTHER not i dont remember what iso it was but the wifi on that one worked for me but there was no mouse cursor so that really killed it for me
You can imagine that this is not really helpful?
have you got it function? the b43m wireless card?
[…] Netbook, falls du die Version noch nicht getestet hast, solltest mal versuchen. Die Version auf Android-x86 ICS 4.0.4 for Acer1000 series funktioniert auch bei einigen Aspire One Modellen, evt. auch ein versuch Wert. __________________ […]

thx
Hi everyone! Does anyone get working with broadcom b43 wireless card!? everithing runs perfect here on my acer aspire one 751h besides the wireless card. The system recognize it because it shows the mac address but it cant find any wifi.
Just installed on my hp mini 5102. Wifi and bluetooth worked immediately! Going to play around with it some more and report back.
Thank you very much for creating this!
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for creating the android 4 beta 3 for aspire one. It runs well on my acer happy2. I especially like it because my multi touch pad works. I can use 2 fingers to scroll around the launcher as well as when browsing a webpage. I can also use pinch zoom for webpages.
Unfortunately, I could not find any software that can open pdf files. Neither adobe reader or radeon pdf reader worked.
I am also not able to have access to the other partitions on my hard drive the way i could when I dual boot with other linux distro like ubuntu or puppy linux.
This means that i cannot edit files on my hard drive and share them between operating system.
Hmm you could use mount tool on commandline like on all linux system. In terms of pdf apps, tried google docs? Moreover you could try the new release with ARM-emulator it should give you more possebilities.
Hi there… I left a comment previously saying about it works on the 1025CE (asus eeepc)… Well, I booted it this morning, worked fine. I updated my bios as there is a new flash out for my model.. For some reason I also decided to redownload and mount the above image but I used the same process as before that worked fine. So now when I try to boot the usb live, it just says Detecting Android-x86….. and keeps adding more dots. If I go to install Android then it gets again down to detecting android-x86 but then says NTFS Version 3.1 and repeats it twice every 3 seconds continuously..
I can only assume the new bios is causing some messup maybe coz I have not changed anything else…
Thanks
Did you installe on ntfs? Try ext2/3/4
Yeah formatted to fat32 .. I will try the new beta4, hopefully it cures the issues. Thanks for the reply Chris.
Beta3 in live mode works very well for my old Acer Aspire one A150.
It’ will very likely run in dual boot with Ubuntu very soon and, even better, I will put it in dual boot on to another netbook by Asus which currently runs a slow windows 7.
Good work, thanks a lot.
Thanks for feedback. I have added the A150 to the supported device list.
You are welcome:)
By the way, this afternoon i tried to install it under Ubuntu with qemu, but with no lack, while another distro (which lacks wifi support) got installed without any problem (apart from the long time required).
Have you tried to run your distro this way?
I made this attempt, though I know that the distro would run slower, just because I’ve seen that a normal installation in dual boot with Ubuntu would require a massive editing of grub and, since I needed my pc just today (I had to work) I was very carfeul:)
Thanks.
I meant “with no luck” obviously.
Congratulations, this is the most stable ICS I ever found for my old hp550 notebook!
However, 2 things do not work:
1. wlan list is empty (for bcm4312 chip)
2. can not install apps (su, ghostcomm, wifiadb…) from google. It says “Device not compatible”. As model you stated aspire1000s.
Any ideas?
THX and cheers
Val
Hi Christopher,
first…great work! But I have a question about UMTS-Sticks. I use a a stick from Huawei (E1550) and it doesnt works. Cann you explain how to configure Android to make it work =) or isnt this stick supported?
thanks
Christian
Sorry, because I don not own a umts-stick myself, I never tried it. Did you ask in official Android-x86 newsgroups?
Thank you for great work.

Was wondering if you thought about bringing the newest beta of X86 into this project, there are some really nice features in their solution now that could stand to be upgraded with yours.
Thanks!
Hi,
yes I will bring a next release and try to go ahead with newested updates. But I have still a lack of time and moreover now here in KL a problem with my internet connection which is not proper, because only over mobile with limeted traffic, so not possible to sync in the moment.
You have to be patient, sorry.
Hello cristopher, first of all, thanx for the great job. but can i ask you to put one more driver package for wireless card? its b43m, taht is about broadcom wireless card b43xx driver.! Thank you very much, that is my mail if you got jst tell me , and if not thats ok!
Thank you
I just download your image onto my acer d150, looking good so far, but how do I mount a sd card?
if is not working out of the box (for me it does), you can try to edit the kernel parameters for changing. Just have a look on androd-x86.org You will find information in the wiki or in the newsgroup.
Tried it out on a Acer Aspire One ZG5 the other day. Seems to be working fine. After doing some research there seems to be a issue with x86 and Google Voice and other Google products. Is there a work around to get this to work? Tried using GV on a few different web browser’s and the GV app. Texting works fine, however not able to make or receive call’s. Thanks for any help…
Sorry I don’t know. You have to investigate this on your own. Have you tried beta 4 with ARM emulation?
Hey, great work! Runs perfect on my Acer Aspire One D150 but…no wifi 🙁 I set it to ON but nothing happens, can’t detect my router or my Atrix (in tethering mode).
Other than that…it’s great!
Hi,
thx for all the work, still works great. I am using easybcd to boot, and installed windows 7, and 8 and android.

Hello Christopher,
I have installed the beta3 on my laptop , an ACER 1425P, with a touch screen. IT S WORKING FINE. Wifi is ok.
Touchscreen is working wery smooth, like an android tablet…
I have installed it on a small 10G partition, as a dual boot on my hd with WIN7. One main problem however : the accelerator
When moving on left or right, is seems like it is inverted, left is right, top is down, etc…So, the good new is something happens when moving the laptop up and down, but…not in the right direction, an not with the right degree and velocity ! What drivers are using for these sensors on linux ? Maybe some fine tuning to get it working could be enough ?
Great job !
Hi,
two things, why you are using beta 3 if beta 4 is already available? Second, please go through the FAQ, you have to update your BIOS to solve your rotation Problem.
Cheers

Did you try beta 4?
hey i have a Acer Aspire One D250-1428 and i cannot seem to get wifi working on any version of android x86 i have tried even from the project site too and i found your site googling around. The wifi light does come on but no connectiions are ever found or even show up when i even do scan etc. Thanks if u got any tips or help here, i would really appreciate it as i would love to fire this on my netbook permanently .
just noticed beta 4 actually will try that now and see

Acer aspire one A150
On the other hand, you did a good job..
Thanks you are Legend!
THANK YOU for this! I realize that this is a bit of an old page, but I was cleaning out the PC graveyard and came across an old Aspire 1410 that would not run Windows. I still can’t get the hard drive formatted correctly- it seems to be somewhat busted- but before I decided to replace parts or junk the machine, I decided to see if it would boot to Android. The file in the post above worked great. (Granted it took me about 30 tries with GParted to isolate a partition away from the bad sector in the HD.) So far, most apps I need work excellently. No problems with the wireless card at all. Keep up the great work.
Hi Jennifer, I am glad to hear that. But I strongly recommend, that you take a look on the more recent version beta 4. It has some important advantages.
